Project Case Study · Concrete Remediation

Concrete repair at SAN Hospital’s

Care Construction completed localised concrete remediation at Sydney Adventist Hospital, Wahroonga, for JDV Projects.

The project and repair approach

The challenge

Cracking, spalled concrete and damaged render had affected the junction of the concrete beam at Sydney Adventist Hospital. Care Construction was engaged by JDV Projects to repair the localised damage as part of the wider awning works.

The location called for careful preparation and access planning. The repair sat approximately 3.5 metres above a public-facing hospital area, with existing finishes and an adjoining concrete joint to consider.

A repair informed by engineering detail

TTW’s engineering advice provided the basis for the repair scope, addressing removal of unsound material, treatment of exposed reinforcement and reinstatement of the concrete while respecting the existing joint.

The engineering comments also highlighted the importance of defined repair edges and preventing mortar from bonding across the joint. These details made the junction a key consideration throughout the repair planning.

Our work

Working from scaffold access, Care Construction removed the damaged material and prepared the exposed repair areas. The team checked the repair dimensions, protected adjoining surfaces and rebuilt the affected sections with repair mortar. Helifix pins were incorporated into the repair, and localised render reinstatement completed the package.

The photographs document the hands-on process: exposed concrete after breakout, measurement of the repair area, surface preparation and mortar placement along the awning edge. Masking and protective sheeting helped contain the work around the surrounding finishes.

The result

The damaged awning sections were rebuilt and the localised concrete repair and render reinstatement completed for JDV Projects. The completed-work photographs show the reinstated edge and underside at the junction, with the repair areas clearly distinguishable from the surrounding existing finish.

By bringing preparation, concrete repair, Helifix pin installation and render reinstatement into one package, Care Construction delivered a coordinated solution for this part of the hospital’s wider awning project.
